Hello mnm1969

Try the following:

1. Close Flashpaste (Exit from tray menu or File->Terminate)
2. Backup the "C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\flashpaste\" folder (Just for case)
3. delete common.db and flashpaste.cfg files
4. Copy common.txt and flashpaste.cfg from old version
5. Open Flashpaste.cfg in Notepad. Replace DBPath= parameter, point it to your common txt.
i.e. DBPath=C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\flashpaste\common.txt. If there is no "DBPath=" parameter in file, write this line after [main]
So, you should get something like this

[Main]
DBPath=C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\flashpaste\common.txt.
....

Note: filename (common.txt) shoud be written in lower case!
6. Save and close Flashpaste.cfg
7. Run Flashpaste. It should convert common.txt to common.db

Hope this helps
